What a girl wants, what a girl needs: The Aphrodite Project

One of the first articles I wrote for Gadgetnutz was about these remarkable shoes and the concept behind them. To me technology is supposed to make life easier, safer and more fun.

Strange as it may sound I love the idea behind these shoes. Putting information in the hands of people who usually get denied knowledge is good for everyone. Having a social group to help defend you and improve your life can only be good.

And combining Art and Science is what my life has always been. So this is an invitation to learn about this combination. Go see it!

Opening Reception September 11, 2010, 7-10 PM

Gallery Aferro is proud to present a mini-retrospective of The
Aphrodite Project
, started by Norene Leddy in 2000. The exhibition
includes the social sculpture projects Kestos Imas, DIY, Project
Walkway, and Platforms: interactive, wearable devices that are a
conceptual homage to the cult of the Greek goddess of love, Aphrodite,
practical objects for contemporary sex workers, and vehicles for
public dialogue. Combining clothing and accessories with both high and
low technology, these projects draw on innovations made by venerated
courtesans from antiquity to improve conditions of 21st century women.
