The Moto Z2 Play phone is fashionably thin with a great camera system. It is a great companion for trips to the playa, on the plane, or on train rides.
The Moto Z2 Play is slim with a sleek aluminum unibody. The screen has a tough exterior made with Corning® Gorilla® Glass and water-repellent nanocoating to protect against moderate exposure to water, such as accidental spills, splashes or light rain. It also comes in a variety of colors and textures.
The display is a brilliant 5.5” full HD super AMOLED display. You can view photos and videos in vivid color with razor sharp detail.
The back of the Moto Z2 Play includes the rear camera and the snap-on surface for the Moto Mods. The camera has a large bump but fits easily into the Moto Mods.
Moto Cameras
Moto Z2 has a new 12MP camera with dual autofocus pixels. The rear camera comes with an array of professional features. The front camera uses laser autofocus up to 5 meters. The cameras have dual autofocus pixels that use up to 3 million pixels to focus in fast.
The rear camera has a professional mode for ultimate control. The professional mode allows you to adjust settings such as the white balance, shutter speed, ISO, exposure compensation, and manual focus.
The front camera has an automated 5 MP, wide-angle lens to capture more people in a group selfie, and a dedicated flash. It features an optional beautification mode for selfies, which softens wrinkles or blemishes.
The dual autofocus cameras use up to 3 million pixels with a fast autofocus. This is Motorola’s first camera to feature laser autofocus up to 5 meters, which is three times the range of the previous generation cameras.
Moto Voice: Show me!
Moto Voice has been enhanced with “show me” that delivers simple, instant voice-queries to see the weather, calendar, or launch an app without ever touching your phone.
Security for Friends and Family
You can authenticate the Moto Mod Z2 Play with your fingerprint, and it can recognize up to five fingerprints.
Moto Mods Enhance Music and Battery Life
Changing Mods is a Snap, it is so easy to snap on the mods to the Moto Z2. We evaluated the SoundBoost 2 and the TurboPower Pack. These mods snap on in seconds and stay connected.

Amazing Sound Boost 2 Moto-mod with JBL speakers
The sound quality with the JBL speakers very clear and full. To test the sound, we played Queen’s official Bohemian Rhapsody video, Mozart’s Horn Concerto Number 3 in E flat, and Yes’s The Heart of the Sunrise for a full-range sound check. We did an A/B sound test, with and without the JBL speakers. The SoundBoost 2 Moto-mod with JBL speakers has a must richer sound.
The SoundBoost 2 Moto-mod with JBL speakers comes with a kickstand, which makes watching videos easy. It can easily balance on a couch or beach blanket. The kickstand only supports horizontal viewing.
Snap on more Battery Life with the Moto TurboPower Pack
The TurboPower Pack provides a full day of extra battery life and weighs in at weighs 95g. It is so compact that we thought we lost it; it was in the bag with the Moto and the Sound Booster mod. The TurboPower Pack was just that small and light.
Two charge modes:
- Efficient: provides more battery life for a longer time, keeping your phone battery at 80%.
- Turbo: maximizes power transfer to your phone, and keeps your phone at 100% until the TurboPower Pack is drained.
You can switch mods easily. It charges super-fast. You can plug in the TurboPowerTM Pack and power up to 50% of capacity in just 20 minutes at 30W speeds.
Note: Motorola will release other Moto Mods in the near future.
Definitely a Keeper
The Moto mods make the Moto Play Z2 phone even better. The camera, apps, user experience, along with the sound, and power make this phone fun. The Moto Z2, with these speaker and power mods package, is a long lasting, high fidelity experience. I would definitely share it on a picnic, Burning Man’s Playa, or on a long-distance flight.
